Foundation

That's the English Channel behind us. We took a trip to Brighton which is on the
southern coast on our long weekend. It was so good to smell the sea air, be near
the water and hear the seagulls after a busy week in the temple.
On July 3rd we had a B shift FHE.  This is the B shift for that week.  It includes black badge
missionaries (that is what we are) full time missionaries that are from England and
New Zealand, and some periodicals (they come usually 2 weeks in 8 weeks). The Wolsey's
are front and center.  They went home 2 days later and will be sorely missed, they are from Canada.

We had an American 4th of July dinner with hot dogs, beans and crisps (chips).
President and Sister Freeman taught the lesson using the groups family and personal
conversion stories. We then played a fun family feud game.
The Brighton train station is beautiful, and reminiscent of European train stations.
This is not a sandy beach, but it is beautiful anyway.
It is a shingle beach (rocky beach).  When you look and see people sitting and lying on the beach at first you think that must be so uncomfortable.  But surprisingly it is comfortable, kinda like a bean bag chair.  And...who doesn't like throwing rocks into the water.  No shortage of rocks here!

After having a delicious dinner of seafood risotto we walked along the waterfront to the pier.

The pier has restaurants, arcades, and carnival rides.
This picture is taken from the pier looking back to where we walked from.
That tall spire looking structure is the i360.  It is the world tallest moving observation tower.
On Sunday we attended church in the Brighton Ward Chapel.  You can see the sign on the right side and a steeple in front. The Turners (temple missionaries) go to church here.
They gave us a ride from our hotel to church. It is a small ward, mostly college students.
But it is growing like crazy.  Sixteen baptisms in the last 12 months!
Testimony meeting and Sunday School were great.  We love visiting wards around England.
Everywhere we have gone we hear strong testimonies of Jesus Christ.
Testimonies with a sure foundation.
"Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners,
but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets,
Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth
unto an holy temple in the Lord." Ephesians 2:19-21

We walked back to the hotel after church and passed lots of walls.
These walls were built to last.  Everything here is built to last forever.
We couldn't help think about strong foundations as we kept passing these walls.
"And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the
rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must
build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his
mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his
hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power
over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo,
because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure
foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall."
Helaman 5:12
There were also some pretty flowers along our walk.
We found the perfect restaurant.
It had two things we wanted; great seafood and we could sit outside.
That is the water over Matt's shoulder.
We ate here several times.  It was right next to our hotel and why not, it was good!
The Regency Restaurant is one of the oldest restaurants in Brighton.
Sunday the weather was a little misty, but Monday was clear and warm.
We watched swimmers, kayaks, sailboats, fishing boats and paddle boards.

This is as close to Wimbledon as we got.  East Grinstead in a Pub on the telly (TV) with a
pint of Diet Coke (not really, it's a Diet Pepsi, Diet Coke is hard to find in restaurants,
...and no Diet Pepsi is not really okay, but if it's all you got!!)
East Grinstead is a cute town.  This is High Street (Main Street is what we
would call it, but here every town has a High Street.)
No malls here.  Every shop has a specialty and High Street gets very busy with
shoppers as they go from shop to shop.
Don't think we have put in pictures of the Manor House on the temple grounds.
The President and Matron live here, and there are a few flats for missionaries.
Pretty flowers everywhere you go.
It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood! The temple grounds are in full bloom.
The weather has been a bit dry, so there has been a lot of hand watering.
We love working in this beautiful, holy temple.
There has been a group of sisters from France this week.  My French is 'no bueno'!
Pronouncing French names has been a bit challenging. But they are sweet and patient.
